Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, through the EEA and Norway Grants, are launching the EEA Civil Society Fund, a new fund aimed at strengthening democracy, human rights and the rule of law across Europe. The fund represents a vital lifeline to civil society organisations at a time when democratic institutions are facing unprecedented challenge

Over the past five years, the Active Citizens Fund has financed more than 140 non-governmental organization (NGO) projects in Lithuania, promoting civic engagement, government oversight, and the empowerment of vulnerable groups. This 9-million-euro program, funded by Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, was administered by the Open Lithuania Foundation and OSFL Projects.

Last weekend, a large-scale beach clean-up took place in Giruliai, attracting over 300 volunteers. Together, they collected 3,500 litres of rubbish. Both adults and schoolchildren participated actively in the initiative.

All the communication specialists of the agencies administering the EEA and Norway Financial Mechanism projects in Lithuania (CPMA, Innovation Agency, Research Council of Lithuania, Active Citizens Fund), the Ministry of Finance and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway met to discuss the communication results of the period that is coming to an end.

During the decommissioning of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP), particular attention is paid to the safe management of various types of radioactive waste. Furthermore, such projects are also supported by international programmes. The project "Enhancing the safety of radioactive waste management at the INPP", which was largely financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, has been completed.
